Both stearic acid-coated calcium carbonate and ground calcium carbonate are used in the paper industry as fillers and coating pigments. Mangal Microns is an emerging manufacturer and supplier of high-quality stearic acid-coated calcium carbonate and ground calcium carbonate.

Ground Calcium Carbonate

  • The paper industry uses ground calcium carbonate (GCC) as a filler to increase the paper’s brightness, opacity, and printability.
  • GCC is a cheap and plentiful supply of calcium ions that interact with the paper fibres’ anionic groups to increase their affinity for ink.
  • Gcc also increases the paper’s bulk and stiffness, enhancing its processing and handling qualities.
  • GCC can be used in various types of paper products, including printing and writing paper, packaging paper, tissue paper, and newsprint.

Stearic Acid Coated Calcium Carbonate

  • It enhances the paper’s smoothness, printability, opacity, brightness, and other qualities.
  • The stearic acid coating on the calcium carbonate particles offers a hydrophobic surface, which improves compatibility with the hydrophobic polymers frequently employed in paper coatings.
  • Calcium carbonate coated with stearic acid can be added to paper compositions to increase bulk and stiffness. This increases paper strength and improves runnability on the paper machine.
  • It lowers the amount of expensive pulp used throughout the papermaking process, saving money for paper producers.
  • Additionally, it can serve as a coating pigment by filling in the pores and crevices on the paper’s surface, which will lessen ink penetration and enhance print quality. This makes the paper more suited for high-quality printing tasks like magazines, brochures, and catalogues.
